In light of the rapid increase in electromobility, a stable, efficient charging infrastructure is becoming crucial. Hyperchargers place intensive demands on the power grid, and intelligent energy management ensures efficient charging processes, lower costs, and stable grids. That’s why we at be.storaged, together with EWE Go and EWE Go Hochtief, have implemented a state-of-the-art energy management solution that optimizes energy distribution, reduces costs, and prepares for future challenges.

Challenge
EWE Go operates high-performance charging stations with hyperchargers. At peak times, the grid connection is often insufficient, leading to grid overload, low charging speeds, and efficiency losses. Real-time signals from grid operators had to be integrated to optimize charging behavior in areas sensitive to grid stability. EWE Go Hochtief received over 100 charging stations (800 kW – 3.2 MW) for the Deutschlandnetz, for which be.storaged provides the load management.

Solution
The okean energy management system enables:

Dynamic Load Management: Real-time distribution of grid power to multiple charging points.
Peak Shaving: Reduction of peak loads and lowering of electricity costs.
Grid Signal Processing: Optimization of charging processes by responding to grid signals.
Atypical Usage: Reduction of grid fees and increase in cost efficiency. Thanks to a small IoT gateway, okean works without bulky hardware.

Result
In 2024, a pilot site showed: atypical grid usage, optimized power consumption, and lower grid charges – all without battery storage. okean provides real-time monitoring, load balancing, and efficient, flexible charging at EWE Go and EWE Go Hochtief. Over 100 new charging stations, as well as partners such as McDonald’s and Lidl, benefit from scalable, cost-efficient energy management – a step towards sustainable electromobility.
