Grid Resilience Through Standardization: Our Battery Storage Project in Ahlerstedt-Oersdorf
Germany’s expansion of renewable energy requires grids that balance generation, manage bottlenecks, and ensure stability. With our battery storage project in Ahlerstedt-Oersdorf, we are demonstrating how standardized infrastructure solutions help implement projects more quickly and cost-effectively.

ToggleFlexibility is becoming a key factor
Because wind and solar power are volatile and weather-dependent, grid flexibility is becoming increasingly important. Battery storage systems play a key role here: They store excess electricity during peak generation periods and release it when demand rises—thereby contributing significantly to grid stability.
Our Project in Northern Germany
In Ahlerstedt-Oersdorf, we partnered with Terra One to build a 15-MW/30-MWh battery storage system. Covering approximately 1,300 m², the facility stores enough energy to power about 2,500 households for one day. The remote location posed special challenges in terms of logistics, space requirements, and a timely grid connection—we needed a compact, factory-tested, and ready-to-connect solution that was precisely aligned with our commissioning schedule.
In collaboration with our partner ABB, we implemented a modular medium-voltage distribution system: four pre-assembled, factory-tested container stations with integrated switchgear and transformers. This allowed us to reduce the need for additional switchgear by about 40% and commission the system on schedule.
Result
With this solution, we have achieved full compatibility between our battery technology and the local grid, reduced the coordination effort, and significantly lowered the logistical and structural requirements. Ahlerstedt-Oersdorf demonstrates how standardized approaches transform battery storage projects from one-off engineering tasks into scalable, repeatable infrastructure solutions—a model we are continuing to implement in other projects together with ABB.
